Kashi-Varanasi-Banaras – Part-2

Day2 : 3-Apr-2015

Wake up by 2.30 & slept again. Alarm rang at 4.30am…slept again thought Mom will be tried as yesterday we had lot of walk….Ready by 8am…reached gate no-1…the queue was from other end to few Kms…so again halted plan to have darshan & had breakfast of Idli at Keshari Ruchikar Byanjan.  Started for Ghat’s at Ganga from Dashehwamedh Ghat to its right side @ about 9.30am….almost walked for 2 hrs or so. Hats off to my 72 years old Mom, who walked till end to reach Assi Ghat in the soaring heat. When we landed yesterday temperature was 36’C…Saw lots of ghats. Visited one temple at Kedar ghat, Gauri Kedareshwar temple.

Then for return, came via by-cycle to again Dasheshwamedh ghat to try again for darshan. This time went through gate no-2, but the queue was very long… least for 2 hrs as yesterday. We thought of ETA, so again changed plan….went for lunch at Shree Café & came to hotel by 1.15pm.

Had rest for few hours, we were ready @5pm for boat ride. We did ask in Zostel for boat ride yesterday only. There are 2 times when boat rides are generally available one @ 5.15am in morning to see Ganga Ghat, at the time of Sunrise and another @ 5.15pm to watch Ganga Aarti. We were in reception area then another 5 persons joined us, all from Zostel. The boat man came at 5.20pm…We again walked till the ghat.

Boat started 6.10pm…we headed towards Harishchandra ghat. Boat man was giving commentary about different ghats and there history. It seems all raja-maharajs from all over India built ghats in their names so that they can come here & stay here with Lord vishwanath & Ganga.

We headed again to Rajendra ghat for ganga aarti. Ganga Aarti was already started @ Dashashwamedh ghat earlier than Rajendra ghat. Ganga aarti was started @ about 7pm. Spent 30-40 mins for Ganga Aarti. Life time experience to see Ganga aarti. We also offered flowers & diya to Maa Ganga. All boats were stationed at these 2 ghats. At about 7.45 or so….we headed towards Manikarnika ghat. While reaching there, we also saw Manmandir ghat, Lalita ghat (where there is a temple called Nepal Temple) & then ManiKarnika Ghat. We never saw these ghats in morning, as we took left turn (facing ganga) & saw Ghat till Assi Ghat. These ghats are on the right side. Even @ 7.45pm there were 13-16 burning pyre. It’s said it is always full. Yesterday while we were at Blue Lassi Shop, within 10 mins or so, we saw 3 death bodies proceeding towards Manikarnika Ghat. We reurn to Rajendra ghat @ 8pm.

Again headed towards Lord Vishwanath temple from gate-2. From gate-2 the queue was till gate-1 & we again join queue in gate-1. This time it took about 50 min to take darshan. But we cannot enter main temple room, as the gate was closed @ 8pm, so we can see the Shiv Linga only from outside of the room.

Headed towards, Blue Lassi & went to nearby sweet shop called Deshbandu sweets….had 2-3 sweets & headed towards ghat. As we were hungry, we decided to take dinner at a restaurant called “Krishna Veg”….. veg thali for Rs:120/-…good thali consists of 5 rotis, mutter paneer, kadhi pakoda, dal, chawal, papad, aachar etc. It was 9.30pm…we started to walk towards room & reached at 10.30pm. I decided to try Banaras Pan as coming to Banaras I should try that J…..chose one of roadside pan stall. The pan was too good, all melted in the mouth.
