Grishneshwar, Ellora, Bhadra Maruti – Aurangabad

28 Jan 2013

Grishneshwar Temple
Started @ 10.30am from home….reached Ellora @ 11.10-15am. First went to Grishneshwar Temple. There was queue, not that long though…. incidentally it was Monday as well. While we were in the queue, there was 12 o’clock Arti….once that done, the queue again open up. Men need to remove shirt, baniyan, basically bare till belly. This is the Jyotirling where you can touch the linga. I have heard about Bhimashankar as well, as it is in somewhat remote place and there is not much crowd. let’s see…when I will visit Bhimashankar. Took darshan….forgot to take any photos from outside as well, as inside temple complex, as usual photos were not allowed. The complex is small, not that big one. Headed towards Ellora  Caves.

Ellora Caves
We reached Ellora @ around 12 pm….visited cave 16, which was exactly in front of the gate. This cave is main attraction in Ellora, the Kailashnath Temple inside cave. We roamed around inside for 2-2.30 hrs. The cave and surrounding was clean, nice to see this. The foreigner, which we saw at Ajanta was also present on the top of the cave, busy with painting. The cave had huge structures and a huge Shivling in the temple. On the left, we saw few bats as well…and stinking smell due to bats. We left Ellora at about 2.30pm….without exploring all other caves.

Bhadra Maruti (Hanuman)
There is also a Hanuman temple called Bhadra Maruti 2-3kms away from Ellora. We reached there at 3pm…had good darshan. This Hanuman is in sleeping position….recollected same sleeping Hanuman while doing Omkareshwar Parikrama at Omkareshwar. Did some shopping at Aurungabad Silk Factory (or so) on the way to Aurangabad and had lunch at 4.15pm at Hotel Ladali in Aurangabad. Food was good here. Reached home by 6 pm.

Had a wonderful 2 day change in Aurangabad and experienced good hospitality at my cousin’s place.
